Made 2 Move

Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Gemima Reynolds Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “Here Comes the Sun” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Being able to capture memories of my daughter Gemima when she was 7 has been just delightful. I found her school art book and was transported right back to this time of being her art teacher. Her colour choices, the cute way she drew people and the memory of making crowns and then teaching her class how to use mirrors to create self-portraits, comes straight back to mind. It has been such a treat to meld the roles of artist, teacher and mother in this exhibition. The timing is even more poignant. Gemima has just graduated Year 12.
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Scarlett Wildes Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “The Ripple Effect” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 “The ripple effect,” describes the idea that a single action can set off a chain of events that produces far-reaching consequences. One small act of kindness for example can encourage other acts of kindness. Walking past the silks causes them to move. It’s a great reminder that we all have an effect on each other.
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Annabel Eugarde Embroidered by Debbie Tanzer and Nadine Reynolds “Parrot King” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 I found the lyrics to the song “Parrot King” by Stephanie Wilson when posting the image of Annabel’s workshop drawings on social media. “Talk to the parrot king He’ll tell you what it's like to fly With a broken wing Talk to the parrot king He'll tell you now's the time As winter becomes spring What will it bring, will it bring I've got feathers on my heart strings.” Both Annabel and I have experienced ‘broken wings’ when enduring moon boots in the last year or so. Both of us have emerged stronger from the experience.
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Oren Williams Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “Cartoon” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Cartoons were historically the preparatory drawing that artists did before starting the more resolved adult work. In combining Orens’ paintings with examples from his extensive collection of cartoon characters, a little of the complexity of adolescence is captured. The fun, the angst, the emotion the craziness of this time - doesn’t it just bring back some memories of this rollercoaster time in your life for you?
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Lizzy Geringer Embroidered by Leisa Rosignol and Julia Smith “Kiss from a Rose” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Roses are a motif in Lizzy’s work. This interior is at first glance carefully ordered, there is something about the composition and the elements within that remind me of the cover of an enthralling novel. Childhood almost over – watch this space.

Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Olivia White Embroidered by Justine Antsiss and Nadine Reynolds “Pure Imagination” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Dreams and imaginings - dragons and castles, a queen and cat reflections, cloud countries in the sky. That wonderful feeling of being caught up in a book. This is surely one of the happiest experiences of childhood.
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Florence Inskip Embroidered by Joanne Veenstra “Butterfly Kisses” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 There was a song that was popular when my oldest child was young. One of those songs which caught the emotion of a lot of us. New parents who couldn’t quite believe just how much love we had to give and receive from this child of ours. Childhood is such a precious time. Precious but also fleeting.
Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “Froth and Bubble” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 My first solo exhibition in 2016 revolved around rocks and bubbles. This collaboration with Chloe reminds me so much of the aesthetics and sentiment of “Two things stand like stone” for Chloe has shown much kindness and courage this year. Life is mostly froth and bubble, Two things stand like stone, KINDNESS in another’s trouble, COURAGE in your own." Ye Wearie Wayfarer hys Ballad in Eight Fyttes Fyttes VIII Finis Exoptatus (A Metaphysical Song) Ye Wearie Wayfarer by Adam Lindsay Gordon (1833 - 1870)
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Lucy Wormald Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “Ant Music” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Lucy was pretty keen to draw charcoal echidnas. They are fascinating. Interestingly, echidnas like marine animals, can perform electroception, which begins in their snout, covered in electroreceptors. This is of course how they find ants. I like the way the silk background has taken on a fiery quality. I heard on the news last might that fire ants are becoming a significant problem in the area. Now that’s a thought – maybe echidnas can solve the problem for us.
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Quinn Green Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “Bubbles” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 A tropical island, a paradise, bubbles floating in the sky. What’s inside the bubbles? - lion heads, mice and koalas on tree trunks. Not sure why. Does there have to be a why? Is it a game? Is it a dream? What do you think?
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Dougie Jeffries Embroidered by Alison Pascoe and Nadine Reynolds “Not a Dragon” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Dougie was well known in his class last year for drawing dragons. I was absolutely sure that a dragon would appear in his work at The Lighthouse. But no! Dougie had perfected dragons and had now moved on to other exciting compositions influenced, if I remember correctly by a novel, he and another of the artists had been enjoying. Isn’t it great when we can share ideas with one another and become immersed in creative worlds.
Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Abbey Thomas Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “The Vines” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 What is a vine? – any plant that needs another structure for physical support. Also, today a vine is a six second looping video often funny and found on social media. I love that this silk can remind us of supporting each other. We can do this by being close, hanging around, going back to check in on each other, just like a vine. I love also that it reminds us to have fun together too.

Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Elizabeth Vermeulen Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “Curioser and Curioser” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Upstairs at the Lighthouse there is a room full of wonders to incite the imagination. Elizabeth found a glass dome which looked like it had come from an 18th Century cabinet of curiosities. The presence of the puppy and the kaleidoscopic background, I think, gives this work an Alice in Wonderland sensibility.

Nadine Reynolds In collaboration with Maggie Jansen Embroidered by Nadine Reynolds “Blue Bees” 105cm x 105 cm Acrylic and silk thread on silk $500 Blue bees may at first glance seem fantastical but there are actually 11 species of blue banded bees in Australia. Among the fascinating facts about these insects is the fact that the females build their own nests. Maybe blue bees should be a symbol of ‘girl power.’
